On Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, the Field Hockey team hosted the North Harford Hawks in their final regular season game. The team also honored their 13 graduating seniors.

Before the game began, 13 of the girls were announced and walked out by their parents to be recognized. Seniors Olivia Auer, Katie Bowling, Sarah Cooney, Morgan Domanico, Lauren Fisher, Alissa Gill, Lindsay Harrison, Katy Higinbothom, Samantha Keesey, Hailey Meyer, Olivia Streett, Carolyn Todd, and Judy Yurkofsky were all honored as they took the field for their final regular season home game.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game right from the start. North Harford is always a competitive team,” said Coach Zorbach. “Our strategy was definitely to work the goal keeper and get on her pads, big time, so that way we had tippers close to the circle and a constant barge of shot being taken on cage and because we knew it we kept taking shots on cage and kept chipping away eventually one would pop through.”

The Bobcats started the game with possession, but the Hawks fought hard to take it away from the ‘Cats. They took it down into the defensive zone of the Bobcats to cause a penalty corner, but the standout defensive effort by the Bobcats denied the Hawks the first chance to get on the scoreboard. There were multiple changes in possession as the time ticked away, but Junior Mimi Salters sent the ball into the circle where Senior Sam Keesey tapped the ball right between the goalies feet to give the Bobcats the 1-0 advantage with two minutes left in the first half. The score remained the same going into half.

“The whole night was really something to remember,” stated Captain Judy Yurkofsky. “The fact that it was our Senior Night made everyone pumped for the game. We knew North Harford would be tough, but we had the advantage. Once the first goal was scored, we picked up the momentum. It was a total team effort and the results played out successfully to win our Senior Night and five our seniors something special to remember.”

Coming out of the half, the Hawks were ready to fight back to tie the score up. The Bobcats worked together to limit the chances the Hawks would get to score. The defense stepped up in the back by coming up with some powerful saves to start the transition into the Hawks’ defensive end. A little more than half way through the second half, Sophomore Anna Farley dribbled and dodged past the Hawks’ defense to eventually send a beautiful drive into the circle where Junior Mimi Salters would be on the door step to tap the ball into the goal to make the score 2-0 at the 12 minute mark. The Bobcats knew the Hawks would start stepping up to get within one. As time ticked down, the Hawks were awarded multiple penalty corners, but the strong defensive communication and positioning from the Bobcats would not allow a single shot to go in. The time quickly decreased and when the final horn buzzed, the Bobcats rushed off the field after achieving a 2-0 victory over conference rival North Harford.

“North Harford played a great game. In the end we wanted it more and we made it happen. It was a team effort all across the board,” said Captain Morgan Domanico. Domanico contributed in the cage, tallying a total of 8 saves on the night.

The Bobcats ended their regular season with a record of 8-4 and will be eagerly waiting to hear what the playoff draw has in store for them. The draw will take place on Thursday, Oct. 16.
