Poetry Slams Return Sept. 24

Maddie Ritchey

The poetry slam is back and better than ever, starting on Sept. 24, 2014.

For new students at BAHS, the poetry slam is sponsored by Mr. Taylor. The slam is performed in the Black Box theatre in the G hallway and is open to the public. People go to perform poems, songs, or anything else they want to show. If someone wishes, they can enter their poem in a slam competition and win a prize if ranked the best poem of the night.

The calendar for the poetry slam will start on Sept. 24, 2014 at 6 p.m. This year, admission is $3. Other dates for the slam are as followed: Oct. 29, 2014, Dec. 10, 2014, and Feb. 4, 2015. The last slam will be held on Apr. 22, 2015.

Senior MJ Krchnavy will be performing in the slams this year. “Of course I am! I love going to as many slams as I can. They’re so fun!”

Every year, the poetry slam has a student host that is picked by Mr. Taylor. The host starts off every slam and introduces each person coming on the stage. Last year’s host, Jash Shah, graduated with the class of 2014. This year the position of slam host is being given to Olivia Streett.

Sophomore Julie Stuck is said, “I loved Jash last year, but I think Olivia’s sense of humor is awesome and she will be just as great.”

The Poetry Slam is a great way to meet new people, and is open to anyone. Come have fun and experience Bel Air’s artistic talent!
