Bel Air Drama Company to Perform High School Musical

On April 11th, 12th, and 13th in the auditorium of BAHS, the Bel Air High School Drama Company will be performing their annual spring musical: High School Musical.

High School Musical is a Disney originated story in which a cliché high school makes an attempt at breaking the status quo and encouraging each other to be individuals. The main character Troy Bolton is the basketball team captain of the East High Wildcats, but hides his true passion: singing. Gabriella Montez is the new girl at school, and is known the crazy braniac. Together, Troy and Gabriella become partners in crime and try to shake things up at East High.

The BADC has put in much time, effort, and preparation into this musical. The members of the show have been rehearsing every day after school for over a month now. Given the problems that have occurred due to weather, school trips, and staging problems, everyone has been flexible with the timing and amount of rehearsals.  All the cast members have put much dedication and heart into these songs and dance numbers. Having to memorize all song lyrics, dance steps, prop movements, stage setups and lighting, the show is really coming together for this upcoming production.

“The hardest part of the whole production is definitely timing.” Says Chris Buelow, who plays the role of a jock in the production.

The Bel Air Drama Company is known for their college level performances due to their hard work and dedication. Each year they present a fall, winter, and spring musical. This year the BADC presented the musical “13” and the holiday classic “It’s a Wonderful Life”. The BADC has performed world renowned Broadway musicals such as Grease, Footloose, and Phantom of the Opera. Although High School Musical comes from Disney, it is expected to be equally as impressive.

“I am very happy with the cast. Everybody is stepping up to the plate and we are having fun.” Says Head Director, Mr. Bowden.

Tickets are $12.00 at the door and $10.00 in advance. They can be purchased online at www.seatyourself.biz/belairdrama or at the box office in the lobby on the day of the production.  Go Bobcats…or should we say…Wildcats!
