On Tuesday, September 16, Bel Air High School marching band, cheerleaders, and Journalism students visited Bel Air’s Raising Canes for their grand opening.
Manager Lauren Robinson hired a DJ to entertain the hundred people lined up outside of the restaurant. Some people came as early as the day before while others came the morning of. The line was wrapped around the sidewalk of the building.

Bree Beanum, the first customer in line, traveled about four hours from Spotsylvania, Virginia to Bel Air and arrived at 6:40pm the day prior. Beanum has extensive experience in competing for the first spot in line. “I’ve been doing this for three years, this is my fifth or sixth time winning first place,” she shared with our staff.
Beanum received a gift basket for being first in line while others were entered into a raffle where 20 lucky winners were awarded free Cane’s for a year. The first 100 dine-in customers were given free hats and a pass for one free box combo. Winners included Bel Air Senior Bryce Frasier, who also stayed overnight for the big giveaway.
Canes also offered adoptable animals for guests to meet, courtesy of Harford County’s Humane Society after Canes gave a generous donation to the organization.
Overall, the grand opening was a rousing success pulling in hundreds of people to come in and enjoy the food. Raising Canes is open 10am-12am every day.
