The Lorde summer countdown begins as fans get excited for the pop singers fourth album, Virgin. Here’s everything we know so far from the release date to the masterminds behind it.
Release
Virgin is set to release in less than a month on June 27, 2025. It’s considered her official comeback to the industry as the New Zealand artist has been quiet since her third solo record, Solar Power (2021). Lorde has already given fans hit songs, “What was that” and “Man of the Year” on all major streaming platforms. “What was that” was released April 24, shortly before announcing Virgin, making fans eager for a new album, especially with the accompanied social media teases. “Man of the Year” was released May 29, 2025, after Lorde used small clips of the pop song on her social media posts. Lorde filmed a documentary-style music video in New York City for “What Was That” and also recently released a music video for “Man of The Year”.

Motivation
From a newsletter sent to fans, Lorde wrote, “The color of the album is clear. Like bathwater, windows, ice, spit. Full transparency.” Lorde has sound-to-color synesthesia that allows her to see sound as a color which she has used throughout her music career to influence her songwriting and creativity. She also shared in various interviews and in
newsletters that the album was about exploring her gender identity. “I was trying to make a document that reflected my femineity: raw, primal, innocent, elegant, openhearted, spiritual, masc.”
Lorde also shared that she had struggled with body image and disordered eating which she fought with Virgin. She told DocumentJournal, “This album is a by-product of that process of fully coming into my body and feeling the fullness of my power.”
Cover
As Lorde stated herself, the album is completely transparent. “There’s nowhere to hide. I believe that putting the deepest parts of ourselves to music is what sets us free,” she writes in a newsletter to fans. This is absolutely true for the album cover as well as appearing to be an X-ray of a pelvic bone, fans presuming it her own. The album includes other minor details hiding in plain sight throughout the cover that makes Lorde, Lorde and the album just that much rawer.
Producers
Lorde collaborated with Jim-E Stack, Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged, Buddy Ross, Dan Nigro and Dev Hynes producing the album despite working with Jack Antonoff on her previous two albums. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she referred to him as a, “positive, supportive collaborator,” however she explained she had to trust her intuition in moving forward without him.
Tour
In support of the album, Lorde is going on The Ultrasound Tour, kicking off September 17, 2025, in Austin, Texas. According to fan’s reports on social media, tickets sold out in seconds during the presale on May 14 and general sale on May 16, however resale tickets are still available. Openers including Blood Orange, the Japanese House, Nilüfer Yanya, Chanel Beads, Empress Of, Jim-E Stack, and Oklou will accompany Lorde on the tour.
