After the groundhog saw its shadow, the first day of spring was said to be on March 20th. Though it’s been a week, the weather has not stayed warm. According to timeanddate.com, “On March 20th it was a high of 72 degrees, but the very next day the high was 57” (almost 20 degrees lower). Then as the rest of the week progressed, the temperature continued to fluctuate, while staying in a 10-degree range.
To most this might not seem like a big deal. However, as it is the beginning of spring the weather at 55 degrees is very different than 65 degrees, especially when there has been a lot of wind. Warm weather brings joy to many people. Especially those who experience Seasonal affective disorder (SAD). An article from the Mayo Clinic states, “most people with SAD have symptoms starting in the fall and continuing in the winter months. Some of these symptoms are low moods and low energy.” They also mention, during the summer these tend to go away, due to increased sunlight exposure. This means the inconsistent weather has probably affected their moods.
People experiencing SAD are not the only ones who do not like the recent weather trends. A sophomore at Bel Air High School, Olivia Pensero, is ready to move on. “The cold weather has bothered me, I’ve been getting so excited for spring.”
Everyone around the world has been desperately waiting for the weather to become warm and stay warm; but the question remains– when will it really happen?
