On Tuesday, March 4, The Bellarion took a trip up Main Street to Newberry Bakery. Newberry Bakery usually is closed on Tuesdays but, in honor of Fat Tuesday, Newberry opened to “clear out their kitchen of sugar” by selling donuts. This is a “Fastnacht” tradition, which precedes the Christian season of Lent.
Newberry bakery is a family-owned bakery that started with cake decorating. Newberry has been open for 7 years, with their anniversary coming up in July. Newbery prides themselves on being a nut free bakery with handmade donuts and treats.
On our field trip, we watched how the donuts are made and they let us sample several varieties of donuts, including glazed, powered sugar, and cinnamon sugar. One student, Olivia Carmello shared “It was a fun experience, and the donuts were excellent!”
Be sure to stop by the Newberry Bakery for good treats and a fun environment!
