From Thursday, March 6th to Saturday, March 8th Maryland wrestling states were held at the Show Place Arena.

Preliminaries, the early rounds that qualify wrestlers for the main bracket, kicked off on Thursday, followed by the Semis and consolidations that were held on Friday where wrestlers played their brackets. Final rounds were held on Saturday.

Teams that advanced to the finals were:

1 South Carroll vs. 2 Middletown

2 Huntingtown vs. 4 Stephen Decatur

1 Chesapeake-AA vs. 2 Linganore

2 Walt Whitman vs. 4 Bethesda-CC

The Queen Anne’s County Lions took home the title of Girls’ team state champions.  In addition, Linganore Lancers won the Wrestling Sportsmanship Award.

Bel Air High School Student Vicky Lin was glad she got a chance to participate, even if it didn’t end as expected. “I personally didn’t do so well, but it’s my first year wrestling ever so I was shocked I went to states in the first place- I’m just happy I got to go, experience the atmosphere, and compete against some talented opponents.”

Congratulations to all the wrestlers that competed last weekend!
