All Things Green

St. Patrick’s Day originated as a religious holiday celebrated in Ireland to honor St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. St. Patrick’s role was to spread Christianity to the people of Ireland. St. Patrick died on March 17, 461, so this is the day St. Patrick’s Day occurs every year. Irish immigrants brought this exciting holiday to United States in Boston, Massachusetts 1737. They celebrated with religious services, parades, feasts, and as everyone knows, wearing green!  This tradition is tied to the folklore that says, wearing green makes you invisible to leprechauns, who like to pinch anyone they see!

Food is a big part of this Irish Celebration! People will eat Irish Soda Bread, Fried Cabbage, Shepard’s Pie, Irish Apple Tart, Corned Beef, and Colcannon. Families celebrate with big feasts and gatherings to eat this delicious food.  Recently, Lucky Charms has released a limited-edition cereal that makes the clovers turn the milk green! Lucky Charms has also partnered with ColdStone Creamery and Crocs Jibbitz to help families make St. Patrick’s Day memories.

Personally, St. Patrick’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. My family originated from Ireland and have been celebrating multiple Irish traditions for years. I love to dress up in all green clothes and eat food with my family.

Make sure to wear green this St. Patrick’s Day so you don’t get pinched by any leprechauns!
