Bel Air High School Cheerleaders attended the State Final Competition for the Winter season on Tuesday, February 25th, 2025, at Harford Community College.
The Bel Air Winter Cheerleading team this year is made up of athletes Lauren Young, Brooke Burstein, A’Nya Kennedy, Edselle Agyemang, Zoe Campbell, Christina Campbell, Lexi Phillips, Makenzie Penick, Emily Pasko, Layla Ingoglia, Aubrie Vogel, Abigail Sergeant, and Marleigh Skelton. They are coached by volunteers Coach Amy Rowe and Coach Becky Bell.
The Final State Competition was slightly postponed because of the weather, which gave Bel Air students more time to prepare for the competition! Makenzie Penick told us, “Since the competition got postponed, we had time to work on Marleigh’s 360 to the top and when we got out there on the floor, we hit it!”
The coaches of the team had tried something new and changed the girls’ choreography before going to states, in which they went out there and nailed it!
The Final State Competition was divided into 4a, 3a, 2a, and 1a to separate the competition, with Bel Air High School competing in 3a. Other schools in the 3a section were Northeast, Linganore, Chesapeake, Manchester Valley, Glenelg, and South River. In 3A, Northeast pulled a first-place win with a score of 115.5. Linganore finished second place with a score of 114.8. Chesapeake finished third with a score of 112.8. Fourth place was Manchester Valley ending with a score of 111.6. Glenelg finished in fifth place with a score of 108.65. Sixth place was South River with a score of 107.75.
Bel Air High School finished in seventh place with a score of 104.8. Though the Cheerleading team didn’t get the outcome they hoped for, they gave it their all out there on the floor and learned from the experience. Great job to our Bobcat Cheerleaders!
