On the biggest stage of the NFL, with the Kansas City Chiefs dominating the headlines in their attempt to win their third consecutive Super Bowl to try and make NFL history, the Philadelphia Eagles absolutely dominated.
With a blowout score of 40-22, the Eagles are Super Bowl 59 champions. The Eagles’ franchise now has their second Lombardi in just eight years.
The game all started with the Eagles taking the ball down field to score the first touchdown of the game. Quarterback Jalen Hurts led the team in passing and rushing yards to secure himself his first Super Bowl win along with his first Super Bowl MVP.
The Eagles quickly proved many wrong, going up 24-0 at halftime against the so called “best team” in the country, which silenced Chiefs fans. With hopes in the second half, the Chiefs didn’t put any points up until the third quarter.
Rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean got a pick six on his birthday to light a spark for the Eagles, putting them up 17-0. Jalen Hurts rushed for two touchdowns and threw for 221 yards. Wide receiver Devonta Smith led the team with 69 receiving yards.
Patrick Mahomes only went 6-of-14 for 33 yards, along with two interceptions in just the first half of the game. The Chiefs’ only hope was to just get any points they could. With a finishing score of 44-20, the Chiefs three-peat quickly became just a dream. With three last minute touchdowns, the score somehow makes the game seem closer than it was.
Who will hoist the Lombardi trophy next? Was this the birth of a new dynasty? Only time will tell.
