The Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs are headed to New Orleans for Super Bowl 59!
With a huge 55-23 win against the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship, the Eagles punched their ticket early on Sunday, January 26. MVP candidate Saquon Barkley had three rushing touchdowns to lead the Eagles back to their second Super Bowl in three years.
The Chiefs are looking to make NFL history, as the first team to three-peat in the Super Bowl Era. The Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, helped the team take down the Buffalo Bills in the last few minutes of the AFC Championship, 32-29. This loss made Josh Allen 0-4 against Mahomes in the playoffs, bringing into question the Bills’ ability to capture their first Lombardi.
The Chiefs and the Eagles met just two years ago in Super Bowl LVII. Kansas City won that Super Bowl matchup, 38-35, kicking a field goal in the last minute of the game.
Our best matchups for this game will be between quarterbacks: Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts, along with both teams’ defenses. The focal point, however, still seems to be on Barkley’s legs and his ability to make explosive runs early in drives. The Eagles defense leads the NFL in every stat, and the Chiefs have the ninth best defense in the league.
The Eagles are also looking to make some history, trying to become the first team in NFL History to go the entire playoffs without committing a turnover. Through their first three games (vs. Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams, and Washington Commanders,) the Eagles have forced 10 turnovers while committing 0.
Super Bowl 59 will be played on Sunday, February 9, at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans at 6:30 p.m. Due to the win of last year’s Pro Bowl, the NFC team will be the home representative. Will the Chiefs threepeat, or will the Eagles defensive dominance lead to their second Lombardi?
