On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, local elementary and middle school band students played with Bel Air High School’s band for their annual Band Day. Students had the opportunity to ask high schoolers and music teachers questions as well as play numerous rehearsed songs conjointly.
Band day is over a decade-old and county-wide tradition where younger students not only get to see advanced students perform but actually get the chance to perform with them and get a feel for what it would be like to continue with band/orchestra/chorus throughout high school.
The music event lasted from Monday, January 13 to Wednesday, January 15 with a day dedicated to orchestra students, band students, and choir students. Choral day (Bel Air high school’s choir) hosted Bel Air middle school 8th graders and Forest Lakes elementary school 5th graders. They performed multiple songs including “Dance the night” by Dua Lipa and “Dream a little dream of me” by Ozzie Nelson.
12th grade choir student, Soumya Brown shares her favorite part about choral day was seeing the 8th graders, “It was really fun, being able to have the eighth graders see how happy we are as seniors in choir doing what we do, it was kind of heartwarming.”
Overall, it was a major success and we’re looking forward to seeing new musical students in coming years!
