California has experienced extreme wildfires this past week, causing over 100,000 people to evacuate their homes and killing 25 people.
There are 5 major wildfires spreading all around California, with 2 of the fires being extremely severe. The names of these wildfires are Palisades, Eaton, Hurst, Auto, and Little-Mountain.
The Palisades Fire has burned 23,713 acres of land as of the morning of Thursday, January 16. This wildfire has threatened 12,250 structures and it continues to do so.
The 2nd severe fire is Eaton. Eaton has burned 14,117 acres of California’s land and has threatened 37,000 structures, mainly homes. The Eaton Fire has caused the most evacuations as of Thursday, January 16.
As for the other wildfires, Hurst has burned 799 acres, Auto has burned 61 acres, and Little-Mountain Fire has burned 34 acres of land, the latter being completely contained.
Southern California is at risk these next few days for further fires. Another round of strong winds has been developing, according to the New York Times, causing more concern for the spread of fires. Santa Ana winds have stirred up these wildfires and have caused major damage, reaching up to 90 MPH on some mountain peaks.
The causes of these wildfires still remain unknown, but under investigation. Entire neighborhoods, buildings, and factories have been destroyed, with more structures sure to come.
Tens of thousands of people and families in California are anxiously waiting to return home and to see what damage has been done to their homes and property. Los Angeles Fire Crews are making progress cleaning debris and putting a stop to these fires, but dangers still remain, according to USA Today.
