The Pro Bowl rosters have officially been set. With the Baltimore Ravens leading the NFL with nine players selected, two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry being chosen. The Detroit Lions came in second place with seven players chosen, followed by the Philadelphia Eagles and the Minnesota Vikings with 6 players selected.
Four teams didn’t have a single player chosen: the Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, and the Tennessee Titans.
The Pro Bowlers are decided by a combination of fan votes, coaches’ votes, and fan votes. The actual games are a weeklong skills competition which includes tug of war, passing/catching competitions, relay races, helmet harmony (trivia about their teammates), and ending with arguably the most engaging event, dodgeball, and many more events that occur throughout the weekend.
The AFC East had three players selected with obvious quarterback MVP candidate, Josh Allen along with linebacker Dion Dawkins. The Dolphins and the Jets had no players chosen. The New England Patriots had special teams; Brenden Schooler picked.
The AFC North had 19 players selected, the most by any division. The Ravens leading the NFL in selections had MVP quarterback candidate, Lamar Jackson. Along with Derrick Henry, Zay Flowers, Kyle Hamilton, Marlon Humphrey, Tyler Linderbaum, Nnamdi Madubuike, Patrick Ricard, and Roquan Smith. The Cincinnati Bengals had also quarterback MVP candidate, Joe Burrow selected. Along with Ja’Marr Chase, and Trey Hendrickson. The Cleveland Browns had former defensive player of the year; Myles Garrett chosen. As well as Jerry Jeudy and Denzel Ward. The Pittsburgh Steelers had four players selected such as, Cameron Heyward, TJ Watt, Chris Boswell, and Minkah Fitzpatrick.
The AFC South had nine players selected, with the Houston Texans having four, such as Joe Mixon, Nico Collins, Derek Stingley Jr., and Laremy Tunsil. The Indianapolis Colts had three players selected, Jonathan Taylor, Quenton Nelson, and Zaire Franklin. The Jacksonville Jaguars had two special teams’ players to make the Pro Bowl, Logan Cooke and Ross Matiscik. And the Titans not having such a hot season didn’t have anyone selected.
The AFC West had 13 players selected, with a big shock Patrick Mahomes was not selected. The Kansas City Chiefs had five players chosen, Travis Kelce, Joe Thuney, Creed Humphrey, Trey Smith, and Chris Jones. The Las Vegas Raiders had Maxx Crosby and Brock Bowers chosen. The Los Angeles Chargers had three players selected, Khalil Mack, Derwin James Jr., and Rashawn Slater. And the Denver Broncos had Pat Surtain II, Marvin Mims Jr., and Nik Bonitto.
The NFC East had 14 players selected with the Dallas Cowboys having five players chosen such as KaVonte Turpin, Brandon Aubrey, Tyler Smith, Micah Parsons, and CeeDee Lamb. The New York Giants just had Dexter Lawrence selected. The Philadelphia Eagles had Saquon Barkley, Lane Johnson, Zack Baun, Landon Dickerson, Jalen Carter, and Cam Jurgens. And the Washington Commanders had Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin chosen.
The NFC North had 17 players selected, the second most by any division. With the Chicago Bears had one player, Jaylon Johnson. The Detroit Lions had seven players selected Jared Goff, Frank Ragnow, Brian Branch, Jack Fox, Penei Sewell, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Amon-Ra St. Brown. The Minnesota Vikings had six players selected such as Justin Jefferson, Andrew DePaola, Jonathan Greenard, Andrew Van Ginkel, Byron Murphey Jr., and Sam Darnold. And the Green Bay Packers had Josh Jacobs, Rashan Gary, and Xaivier McKinney.
The NFC South had five players selected, with the Atlanta Falcons having two players chosen, Chris Lindstrom and KhaDarel Hodge. The Carolina Panthers only having Jaycee Horn chosen. The New Orleans Saints, also, with not a hot season, didn’t have any players selected. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had two players selected Tristin Wirfs and Vita Vea.
The NFC West had eight players selected with the Arizona Cardinals having two players chosen Budda Baker and Trey McBride. The Los Angeles Rams had rookie; Jared Verse selected. The San Francisco 49ers had four players selected such as Nick Bosa, Kyle Juszczyk, George Kittle, and Fred Warner. And Devon Witherspoon from the Seattle Seahawks.
The Pro Bowl games will take place on February 2 at 3:00pm.
In the past week the NFL regular season has come to a close, and the playoff stage has been set. The wildcard round will start this Saturday, kicking off with the Los Angeles Chargers facing off against the Houston Texans at 4:30pm.
