Being a senior is stressful. Classes are ramping up, extra-curriculars are in full swing, and there’s the overwhelming shadow of applying to college. This list has been compiled to make your senior year just a bit less crazy and make sure you’re on the right track.
Step 1: Finalize and send any Early Decision or Early Action applications
Step 2: Send transcripts to your top schools
This is done by requesting it from your counselor. Go to the Naviance tile on your school computer’s home screen. Under colleges, there is a tab that called ‘Manage Transcripts.’
Step 3: Send scores from SAT and/or ACT
The SAT scores can be ordered through Collegeboard and ACT scores can be ordered through my.act.org. Remember, not every school requires SATs, and if you are not the best test taker, you may not have to send them. Do your research and know what you need to submit!
Step 4: Start regular decision applications
Be aware of deadlines and talk to your school counselor about the best options for you. Harford County Community College admissions are rolling, but you may need to complete prerequisites.
Step 5: Last but not least…Fill out FAFSA!
You want to get this done as soon as possible. The quicker it gets completed; the more money is available for you to receive. First you have to get your ID from the site. The processing time is 1-3 business days. Then you fill out the actual form. The processing time takes longer but it is often done within a week. The site to do both is studentaid.gov.
A few final items you can start now…
- Continue to apply for scholarships.
- Order graduation cap and gown. The longer you wait, the more expensive they will be.
I hope this list helps ease the stress of your senior year!
