The start date for winter sports is Friday, November 15. The following are winter sports that are coming up: basketball, cheerleading, swimming, wrestling and indoor track and field. Of these sports, swimming, wrestling, and indoor track and field had interest meetings this week. These meetings are held to give people who are interested in joining the background information of the sport.
Wrestling’s interest meeting was on Monday, October 28; swim’s Tuesday, October 29; and indoor track and field’s October 30. In the interest meetings, they talked about general tryout dates, practices, and meets.
Swimmer Lydia White attended the meeting for swimming. White had given us notice about when try outs took place, and shares that tryout dates are the “15th, 18th, 19th, and 20th of November.”
Coach Amy McDermott of the indoor track and field team confirms that those are the dates that are set for tryouts, minus the 15th. However, she implies that this time around, it might be a little competitive. She announces, “this year we are only able to accept 46 people. Do not let this discourage you from trying out now or in the future, because we would love to have you!”
For people who were unable to attend the meetings, they can email the coaches to get the information they missed. All the coach’s emails are listed on the Bel Air High School’s homepage under “Athletics.”
Joining a winter sport is an effective way to get involved in the school and stay conditioned for a spring sport. For those who do not want to play a sport, you can also become a manager. Managers will help coaches and players during practices and games.
Lastly, it is important to remember that when you’re getting involved in sports, if you receive a failing grade from any class, you are ineligible to try out for the upcoming season. The quarter ends soon, so make sure you are doing everything you can to be able to tryout.
Good luck, and let the games begin!
