Halloween is a favored holiday in the United States and is celebrated by many, no matter how old you are. The candy, the screams, the costumes; a kid’s dream come true.
Halloween is known for its religious roots and fun traditions. The holiday began in Ireland with the festival of Samhain. During this festival, the souls who have died are believed to return to their homes. According to Today News, the people began to light bonfires to scare away evil spirits, and dressed in disguise so the spirits wouldn’t recognize them.
Halloween is commonly celebrated with parties, carving pumpkins, dressing up in spooky costumes, and giving out candy. Kids travel house to house trick-or-treating filling up their bags with candy.
At Halloween parties, there are many games played such as bobbing for apples or toilet paper wrap games. Decorations are displayed all over houses like black cats, skeletons, and jack o’ lanterns. Halloween has also incorporated known scary beings such as ghosts, vampires, witches, and mummies into the holiday fun.
As a 16-year-old girl, I enjoy Halloween and all of the traditions it comes with. I have dressed up every year to go trick-or-treating and to hang out with my friends and family. Although many teenagers don’t dress up anymore, it is something I still look forward to.
If you celebrate Halloween, stay safe and have fun tonight!
