After a lengthy bus ride from Bel Air to Annapolis, Bel Air JV field hockey warmed up to play Annapolis an away game for Bel Air. The game kicked off at 5:00 pm, ending around 6:30. Bel Air played excellent defense, stopping AHS from scoring, while offense did their thing scoring two points and clinching a win, 2-0 for the Bobcats.
The victory continued up north as BAHS Varsity Field Hockey secured a win against Elkton, winning by 8 points with an ending score of 10-2.
JV Field Hockey player, Sophomore Anah Daud, contributed to the Bobcats’ victory. Daud, who typically plays offense, played defense for the first time. After leading the Bobcats to a successful game, Daud shares her experience playing a new position: “I got to play a new position and learned how to play corner. We could’ve communicated better, but overall, this game was amazing.”
After keeping the Panthers at bay, Daud’s teammates took charge and scored. Offensive players Alexis Carlson and Paige Kacher scored a point each, taking the lead over the Panthers and ending the game with the Bobcats up 2-0.
While JV battled the Annapolis Panthers, Varsity played the Golden Elks in the Bobcat stadium. Avery Frank, currently on the BAHS Varsity team, played a crucial role on offense. Bobcats scored a whopping 10 points against Elkton, while Elkton scored 2 points. Coach Megan Lukasavage, English Teacher at Bel Air, was proud of the win. “My girls know how to make the game fair. It wasn’t Elkton’s best game, and my girls adjusted. We didn’t overshine and we won humbly.”
After a great game by both JV and Varsity, “Coach Luka,” as the students call her, shared more information on how she and her team won. Lukasavage does a great job balancing work, home and coaching. “I’ve been teaching Field Hockey for about 30 years and teaching 10 years at Bel Air High School. I think my teaching styles are alike to say the least. I get to be more relaxed because the atmosphere is more fun with students outside of the classroom.” Lukasavage also explained the team’s growth and how they manage to win and maintain being humble. “I felt like my girls did a good job of playing their game last night and I’m proud.”
