Bel Air High School JV and Varsity volleyball teams are raising money for the Sideout Foundation with their upcoming annual fundraiser, Dig Pink.
“Dig Pink” is an event that our volleyball teams have taken part in each year, and all the money that the girls’ volleyball team raises helps families and individuals that have been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer.
During the week of the event, the volleyball teams sell candy bags and T-shirts for students to buy, as well as holding fundraisers to raise as much money as possible. In addition, anyone is welcome to donate money through Venmo. All the money raised goes to the Sideout Foundation to support and help people through breast cancer.
Several members of the Varsity Volleyball team– Emma Duvall, Julie Stillwagon, Aubrie Faulkner, Olivia Mannion, Lucy Grieger, and Lilia Dziedzic– talked about their favorite parts of Dig Pink leading up to the big game, October 10th, against Rising Sun. Griger shared her favorite part about dig pink is “getting ready with our team before Dig Pink and watching everybody in the stands cheer and get really excited.”
The serving competition is Dziedzic’s favorite activity.“I absolutely love the serving contest because I get to watch my friends and family try to serve a ball and realize serving is not as easy as it looks!”
Duvall told us her favorite Dig Pink memory. “I would say when we make posters with the whole team and hang them up around the school because it shows support and commitment to the team.”
When Stillwagon was asked “If you had to pick one school to play the Dig Pink game, who would it be and why?” She answered, “I would choose C. Milton Wright because they are our biggest rivals, and everyone would be there; It would be the best game ever!”
Faulkner explained, “My favorite Dig Pink game to play in was Fallston because it was a really good game, even though we lost, we put up a fight.”
Mannion shared the most special part about Dig Pink, “The most special part is playing for women who fought breast cancer, and we get to raise money for the Sideout Foundation and research for breast cancer.”
Dig Pink is a meaningful event that has touched the lives of many. Bel Air High School is proud to support and raise money for the foundation. Make sure to be there and wear pink on October 10th at 7pm against Rising Sun!
