As the final sports season of the 2023-24 school year is wrapping up, seniors are preparing to leave BAHS and embark on larger journeys through college. With that, each sport will hold a Senior Night for their incredible athletes, honoring their efforts from the last 4 years. As the week of April 29 wraps, half of our sports have held their senior nights, all of which resulting in wins.
Girl’s Lacrosse: Thursday, April 25
Girl’s Lacrosse, coached by Kristen Barry, Megan Carter, and Andrea Gwin, held their Senior Night on Thursday, April 25. Facing the Patterson Mill Huskies, we honored the following eight seniors: Carrie Ermentrout, Maggie Ermentrout, Sophia Harrison, Mia Jourdan, Faith Kregel, Kaylee Norstrand, Rachel Taylor, and Ashley Yingling. To cap off the night, our Bobcats won 20-9, their fifth win in six games. The girls also staged Bel Air Rec Night, where young female lacrosse players could come and support. Junior Riley Manzo highlighted how the seniors will be missed, as they’ve helped her “grow as a teammate and player. They are always there for me whenever I need them.”
Track & Field: Monday, April 29
Our runners celebrated their Seniors on Monday, April 29, here at home against Patterson Mill and Elkton. A total of 24 seniors were honored, and both boys and girls won their respective competitions at the meet. Parents came out and were able to get pictures with their carnations, celebrating the big winners of the day and announcing their post-high school plans. Senior Meghan Davis felt the surreal nature of her approaching final meet, understanding that she only has “a few meets left of [her] entire high school experience. It almost hasn’t sunken in yet.”
Boy’s Lacrosse: Tuesday, April 30
The boys were up to bat on Tuesday, April 30, defeating Havre de Grace 10-9 in a nail-biting victory. The following seniors were honored: Garrett Alban, Cameron Class, Hayden Colt, Owen Conway, Jamie Pieper, Ayden Shughart, Devin Trzeciak, Jonathan Vanegas, and Brady Warble. After a rough start to the season, the boys won 5 of their last 6 regular season matchups. Junior Jack Svoboda expressed his gratitude for “all the effort seniors have put into this season and pushing all of us to play at our best when we’re in their shoes.”
Tennis: Friday, May 3
The tennis team will celebrate their seniors on Friday, May 3, facing off against Fallston. Tennis has only lost 2 matches out of 9 and features their star seniors: Alexander Gwiazda, Divya Somuri, Jamie Tran, Maggie Tsomos, and Keira Tyndall. Leading the team towards a great season, Coach Nines and Coach Tran are putting in the work for their players.
Softball: Friday, May 3
Softball will also be holding their senior night on Friday, May 3, against North East. With a 5-9 record, the team hopes to halt their losing streak with a victory and celebrate their seniors who have dedicated their time to the sport.
Baseball: Monday, May 6
Baseball has a large-scale senior night on Monday, May 6, taking place at Harford Community College against C. Milton Wright (also having their senior night). As their last game of the regular season, the boys hope to continue their winning trend and succeed for seniors such as Ben Bowen, Ian Nitz, or Ben Sellers. Coached by Jonathan Andrews, the team recently sent home Rising Sun with a 13-3 mercy rule victory.
The teams here at BAHS are like family, with other Varsity members making posters for the seniors leaving their legacy behind and allowing the next group to fill their shoes. As the year is in the homestretch, stress can easily get quite high. So, go out to a senior night and enjoy the last sporting events of the 2023-24 school year!
