Last weekend, the music department of Bel Air High School traveled to Williamsburg, Virginia to participate in competitions displaying their talents! With countless hours of practice and unwavering commitment from students and instructors, the trip proved to be a success, with all departments placing in their competitions.
The band had performed at Heritage High School and achieved first place for AA High School and overall best band. The orchestra played at Passage Middle School, placing first for AA and overall as well. The choir sang at Berkley middle school, placing 3rd for AA. Guitar ensemble was named first place overall as well. The next day, the music department went to Busch Gardens and spent the day celebrating their victories with rides and food!
Junior Brady King was awarded as the top student accompanist for the choir. “I would say that receiving the award was one of the greatest moments of my life”, says Brady. “The roar of the crowd was amazing, and it makes me so glad that we have such supportive teachers and students in the music program!”
The trip caused much excitement among members of the music department, as the buzz from the trip still carries to today. Junior member of the Counterpoints choir, Selena Sembly, declares, “I had so much fun on the trip! It was so gratifying to see where our hard work can get us, and of course it’s fun to ride roller coasters with your friends.” Sophomore clarinet player Lillian Dowd exclaims, “My favorite part of the trip was riding rollercoasters with my friends, it was so fun! I would love to do something similar again.”
The Bel Air High School community is extremely proud of the accomplishments our music department made last weekend. Way to go, Bobcats!
