The creator of one of the most well-known Anime series passed away on March 1st, 2024. He died due to a condition called Subdural Hematoma, which is where blood collects between the skull and the surface of the brain.
Akira Toriyama was a Japanese manga artist and character designer. The anime for Dragon Ball Z first came out on April 26th, 1989. The anime was broadcasted in over 80 countries worldwide, and the manga has sold over 260 million copies which made this series wildly successful. This series was deemed the face of Shonen, a genre of anime, which led to the uprising of other mangakas of other popular series such as One Piece and Naruto.
With Toriyama’s work bringing such influences, it was a tragedy for almost every anime fan that he passed away. Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of Naruto, was shocked and reacted to this news. “I wanted to make manga like yours! I wanted to be like you,” he said referring to Toriyama on Friday.
While Toriyama is no longer with us, his influence will forever be implanted in the world of anime and manga.
