St Patrick’s day is a celebration of St Patrick who was a missionary and bishop alive in Ireland in the 400’s. While St Patrick’s Day is still celebrated worldwide, not many people know the answers to questions like where the first parade was or when St Patrick was alive.
Recently, we interviewed Bel Air students and the results showed that none of the students or teachers knew more than 2 answers. This made us think, how can we help students learn more about St Patrick’s day and its importance?
The Baltimore Parade has been a tradition for over 65 years. It is full of schools and dancing schools, bands, animals, and popular figures in the Maryland Irish Association. Before the parade begins there is a St Patrick’s day 5K. Hundreds of people come to Baltimore every year to participate in the 5K and to watch the parade after.
Everybody who was associated with making the parade special agrees that it was a truly magical experience for everybody involved. As someone who participates in the parade, the behind the scenes of the parade are a memorable experience for all the teachers and students involved. I highly recommend watching or joining in on the parade on March 10 this year!
