Girls’ basketball at Bel Air High School is set to make a triumphant return as the new season commences. After tryouts had concluded the week prior, Bobcat Girls’ Basketball is starting back up again. Under the guidance of experienced coaches who foster discipline and technique, players are honing their skills to deliver a mesmerizing performance on the court. “I think the team really has a shot this year. We’re in it to win it,” says team manager Stella Heinze.
Long time coach Calvin Skelton claims that he’s hopeful for the upcoming season. “I feel very optimistic about the team this season. The girls have grown as players tremendously over the last few years.”
The 2022-23 playoff results resulted in a 10-12 record, in which they lost by 3 to Aberdeen in regional quarterfinals. There are high expectations set for this season as 10 of the 12 players on the roster are returners from last year’s team. “This year we’re focusing on the process of improvement. We just must worry about being the best team we can be ourselves, rather than what the other team is looking like,” added Skelton
The team had a play day last Saturday before their first game. Skelton is optimistic about the season. “We got a couple of games in and had some good competition. We now know where to focus our areas of improvement.”
