Boys Basketball Team Seeks to Improve

The Bel Air Bobcats Boys’ Basketball team lost three games in four days during the week of Monday, Feb. 1. They took losses from in-county rivals Harford Tech, Joppatowne, and Aberdeen.

In their second matchup of the season, it was once again a thriller against Harford Tech. The Bobcats showed all the effort they could against the Cobras, but couldn’t edge them out when the buzzer sounded, 66-55 Harford Tech. This could’ve affected their confidence against Joppa and Aberdeen later in the week when they lost both games.

The Bobcats looked as if they have lost their fight lately, as they have been losing more games and seem less confident in themselves. They have been taking wild shots, haven’t been executing as well on both sides of the ball, and don’t seem to be on the same page as each other.
Fatigue may have been playing a significant role in their recent decline. The waning season may be taking its toll on the Bobcats, and could mean a rough start to the playoffs.

Junior Will Pinkney says that they may be losing confidence as the season winds down. “As a team, we could have gotten worse. With all the losing recently, everyone has just started to get down and lose confidence.”

The Bobcats are finding themselves falling behind rivals like Harford Tech, Patterson Mill, C. Milton, and others in the standings.

In order to start playing better, Pinkney says they need to work on the effectiveness of their play. “Execution on offense, running our plays, and communication on defense has to be better.”

The playoffs are getting closer, and the Bobcats will need to improve the quality of their play in order to be able to make a strong postseason run. They can do it with support from the Bel Air student section, so come out to support them at the next home game on Feb. 17. They will have a tough test against the Edgewood Rams to close out the season. They have faced the Rams once already this season, and endured a tough loss. They will look to improve this time around and prepare themselves for the playoffs.
