Pep Rally Leaves Students Happy and Teachers Enveloped in Pie

On Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, Bel Air High School had their annual pep rally in the Bobcat Stadium from 12:45 p.m. until 2 p.m.

The main events during the pep rally included many different games that students, staff and teachers participated in. It started off with the hula-hooping contest. Senior Molly Valentine won the contest by hula-hooping continuously for the longest amount of time. Afterwards, there was a football launching competition. Sophomore Cobi Drouillard won with the longest throw of all the candidates. Next, was the tug-of-war competition between the students and the teachers. In a short outburst of animal-like aggression, the teachers all pulled their weight and easily overcame the students in mere seconds. Last came the relay races. Each grade level had representatives to see who could dress up one of their group member up the quickest, won by the senior class.

During the pep rally, teachers and staff members surprised Bobcat Nation with a cheer. Leading the group was math teacher and varsity cheerleading coach Ms. Joffee. The new team had choreographed dances, stunts, and cheers, completing moves that shocked the students.

Chemistry teacher, Mrs. Traxel, and member of the new cheer squad excitedly exclaimed,” I did not know that my legs were that flexible. I rocked it!”

Additional activities in Bobcat stadium that day included the 2013 Homecoming Court.  Members of the court included Caroline Lozzi, Karlie Scherba, Catie Symalla, Brittany Decker, Natalie Decker, Tori Gryglewski, Rien Hachmann, Holly Naumann, Dan Forrestor, Ben Barsam, Jason Dihn, Trent Tolley, Dylan Donley, Cyler Crawford, Nick Loiodice, and Andrew Marinich.

The final event of the pep-rally was the, “Pie a Teacher.” The 1st place winner was teacher Mrs. Snell pied in the face by Andrew Visconti. The 2nd place winner was Mrs. Kozak, pied in the face by Tori Gryglewski. 3rd place winner Mr. Bowden was pied in the face by Julia Merrit. All money donated was given to the charity Anna’s House.

Sophomore Britney Belinski shared an anecdote of one of her Pie a Teacher experiences, “Mr. Bowden made a deal with a junior Brett Klock, who’s in my drama class, that if Mr. Bowden himself won first place he would allow Brett to pie him in the face, so Brett really pushed our class to donate money for Mr. Bowden. Even though he came in third, so Brett couldn’t pie him, Brett still was happy Mr. Bowden got pied in the face. It was pretty funny.”

The 2013 pep rally was a success and a great end to the fantastic week the preceded it.
