Musical Wonderland of Winter Awaits in December Concerts
Join BAHS students in concert on December 19, 20 and 21!
December 9, 2022
The BAHS Music Department will be performing from December 19 to the 21 at 7pm here in the auditorium. Each department of music will be performing on separate days. The band concert will be on December 19. The orchestra concert will take place on December 20, and the choral concert will be on December 21.
Band Concert
The band is conducted by Ms. Samantha Romero, director of band. The songs that will be played are James Swearingen’s “Exaltation,” “On a Hymn Song of Philip Bliss” by David R. Holsinger (ASCAP). The freshman band will play “Rhythm of the Winds” by Frank Erickson and “Joy” by Frank Ticheli. Don’t forget about the annual “Sleigh Ride” tune, by Leroy Anderson, and highlights from the favorite Disney’s Frozen 2.
Orchestra Concert
Spreading the winter magic, the string department also has a magical index of songs.
The orchestra and guitar ensemble is led by Ms. Mary Lynn Twenty, director of strings. Songs that will be played by the orchestra are Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters’s “Mele Kalikimaka,” Celine Dion’s “Happy X-mas (War Is Over)”, and “Please Come Home for Christmas” by The Eagles. The theme is “Classic Christmas,” songs that sound lovely on guitar. The orchestra will play thrilling pieces including “A Joyus Sleigh Ride,” “Thundersnow!”, “Wizards in Winter,” “Carol of the Bells,” and some other winter theme songs.
Students are abuzz in preparation for the concerts. According to junior Alexia Dialinos, “It’s fun- it can be a little stressful, the three weeks up to the concert can be a little stressful.” Furthermore, Dialinos enjoys playing “Mele Kalikimaka” since she has a solo in that song.
Choir Concert
The choir will be led by Ms. Terri Mathews, Music Department Chairperson and Director of Choir. The theme selected for this year’s performance is “Winter!” The different choirs will be performing “Noel, Sing We Noel,” “Antiphonal Deck the Halls,” “Beautiful December,” “Jing-A-Ling, Jing-A-Ling,” and “Joy is Everywhere!”
Counterpoints, a small vocal group, will perform “Noel”; the combined choirs will charm us with “Season of Love,” and finally the combined choir and alumni will sing “Shalom Chaverim/ Silent Night.” This list is not the complete repertoire of songs, however you’ll have to come and see what other winter hits the choir will perform!
Bel Air High School will be filled with winter cheer in the week leading up to the holiday break. Bobcats will also be participating in Holiday Spirit Week to show some extra bobcat holiday spirit.
Come check out our concerts at 7pm!
