Allison Silver, News Writer

The interest meeting of the new BAHS Girl Up club will be held at 2:10 on October 10th in Mrs. Capazzoli’s room, A220.

This meeting will be an introduction to the Girl Up club, as well as a celebration of the International Day of the Girl, which is October 11th. It will also be an introduction to the Girl Up Campaign and the mission of the club.

The Girl Up Campaign was founded in 2010 by the United Nations foundation and recently celebrated its ninth birthday on September 30th. Since then, 3,300 clubs have been established in more than 120 countries. Around 58,000 girls around the world have been impacted by the Girl Up leadership training programs.

As stated on the official Girl Up website, “Girl Up is a global movement of empowered young women leaders who defend gender equality…For those who stand with us in this movement, there is no rest until we achieve equal rights for every girl.”

The Girl Up club is new to Bel Air High School this year, and the Club Leader is junior Abigael Hartlieb.

The mission of the BAHS Girl Up club, posted to their Instagram, reads, “We aim to share some girl power throughout the school, and give girls the power to transform themselves, their communities, and the world.”

All BAHS girls are welcome to attend the interest meeting on October 10th and follow the new Girl Up club on Instagram, @bahsgirlup.
