Fun Halloween Treats to Make

Connor Ostadali

Greetings, Bobcats! Today I have for you three fun and simple treats that you can make for Halloween that you and your friends can enjoy!

The first treat that I have found for you to make is a peanut butter acorn. Obviously if you are allergic to peanuts, do not make this treat. In total, it takes 35 minutes to make the treats, and yields 48 acorns. First preheat your oven to 350°F, and then get out a bowl and mix in ¾ a cup peanut butter, ¾ a cup sugar, 1 tsp. Vanilla, 1 egg, and 1 tbsp. Flour until it is a nice smooth consistency. Next, take the mixture and use about ¼ tsp. of the mixture and spread it onto a baking sheet and shape it into a dome. Bake it for 10 minutes or until golden around the edges, and let it cool for 5 minutes. Next, microwave ¼ a cup of mini chocolate chips on high for 30 seconds and stir every 10 seconds. Finally, take 48 chocolate kisses, and dip them into the chocolate, and then attach them to the cookie base. The next recipe I have is a Meringue Ghost Tartlets. This recipe takes a total of 2 hours and 30 minutes to make, and it yields 8 tartlets. There are three parts to this treat: graham cracker crust, chocolate ganache, and meringue ghost. To make the crust, you will need to preheat your oven to 350°F and in a separate bowl, use a food processor to crush: 8 graham crackers, ⅓ a cup sugar, and 6 tbsp. Melted butter. Mix until the mixture is a fine crumb, then place them onto a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. The chocolate ganache is pretty easy to make, heat ½ a cup of heavy cream into a saucepan, and once it starts to simmer, take it off the heat, and add 4 oz. of bittersweet chocolate to the mix and whisk it until it is very smooth. Then spoon it into the crust. Finally, in a bowl, mix 1 ½ a cup of sugar, 6 egg whites, and 1 tsp. cocoa powder and put it over high heat and stir constantly until the sugar is dissolved, and is hot to the touch. Spoon the mixture into the crust, and take some chocolate chips, and use them as eyes for the ghost. The final recipe I have are chocolate monster cookies. It takes a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes to make, and yields 9 monster cookies. For the cookie bases you have a couple of ways to start, you can buy pre made baked cookies, cookies from a package, or make your own using your favorite recipe. Next to make the candy eyes, heat up some chocolate chips until they are nice and smooth, and put frosting into a piping bag. Make small droplets of the frosting onto a baking sheet, and then make tiny dots of chocolate in the center of the frosting to resemble eyes. Let the mixture cool down in the freezer and make this the day before making the monster cookies. Next, to make the ganache, place 1 ½ a cup of chocolate into a bowl, and set it aside. Take a saucepan, and boil 1 cup of heavy cream in the pan, and remove it from the heat as soon as bubbles appear. Pour the cream over the chocolate, and let it rest for 2-3 minutes until the chocolate is softened. Whisk the mixture together, and add in 2 tbsp. of unsalted butter to the mix. Once the mixture is nice and smooth, place a cookie for the base, followed by the ganache, and the top cookie. Place some melted chocolate on the top cookie, and add two eyes on top, and take a giant marshmallow, cut out three pieces to resemble teeth, and place it on the ganache. When it is all done, it should look like you have monster cookies that are ready to be eaten. Here is a link to the full recipe: https://selfproclaimedfoodie.com/chocolate-monster-cookies/

I really hope you guys have a fun Halloween with your friends and family, and if you make one of the treats, please let me know how they turned out! 🙂
