Don’t Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout is a fictional romance mystery that tells the story of a girl named Sam, who is found wandering the streets with amnesia after her and her friend, Cassie’s, disappearance. Throughout the book, she must decode the events of the night before their disappearance, and try to rediscover who she was before the events that led to her amnesia occurred. As she rediscovers herself, she uncovers the uneasy and strained friendship with she had with Cassie which led Cassie to be perpetually jealous of her life. The book is filled with surprises to keep the reader interested in what will happen next along with realistic and dynamic characters.

Popular by Maya Van Wagenen is a lighthearted memoir about the time Maya tested the instructions in a vintage beauty guide named Betty Cromwell’s Teenage Popularity Guide that was written by Betty Cromwell, a supermodel from the 1940’s, to see if the lessons in the book had any merit in the modern era. Though much of the book describes her experiment and the steps listed in Betty’s book through pictures and descriptions, the story also has an insight into her everyday life through the relationships she has with friends, family, and her teacher. The book allows the reader to relax with a fun and unique tale that is sure to lighten even a unsetting day.

A Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh is a collection of short tales about from her life told through comics that were hand drawn by the author. In the book she uses humorous graphics to intensify events, and make it feel more humorous than than would normally be. The stories have a wide range of topics varying from a letter to her future self she wrote as a small child, to being lost in the forest with her sister and mom, to her battle with depression as a young adult. The book is also very relatable by using a unique style to display thoughts and or actions that many people might have to a similar event, but also stretching the event to a larger unrealistic proportion.

Love? Maybe. by Heather Hepler is a short fictional romance book about a girl named Piper who has a strong dislike for Valentine’s Day, but must help her friend, Claire, recover from bad breakup that occurred just before the holiday. In the book, Piper begins to receive strange gifts from a secret valentine while trying to help Claire. As a result, of the mysterious presents she and her friends also try to discover who her secret admirer that is leaving the gifts are.

So Now You’re a Zombie by John Austin is a pretend guidebook for those of the zombie race who were recently infected. The guide describes to the reader how to survive against the living and talks about the different tactics the undead can use to obtain substinance along with avoiding overall extinction. Through the use of graphs, charts, and text, the author uses common ideas throughout zombie media with a mixture of some of his own ideas to create a fun and unique book for those of both the horror and comedy genre.
