Bel Air Farmers’ Market Celebrates 40 Years of Fresh Produce

The town of Bel Air holds its Farmers’ Market every Saturday from 8 AM to 12 PM until Nov. 21, 2015. This year, the Farmers Market is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The market is located in the parking lot of the Mary Risteau Courthouse off of Thomas Street and S. Bond Street. What puts you in the fall spirit more than enjoying the seasonal produce and getting to enjoy the local, friendly environment?

Everything you purchase at the Farmers’ Market is grown, made, or prepared by the vendor. Some of the goods available include fruit, flowers, plants, beef, chicken, pork, lamb, eggs, and specialty products.

“The market originated in the parking lot across from the Bel Air Library in 1975,” said Mrs. Andrea Kestner, Bel Air Farmers’ Market Manager. “Three farmers who had produce and fruit left over from their farm decided to just set up and see if the townspeople would like to buy from them.  40 years later, our market is 50 vendors strong and still living to the mission statement of producer only. Vendors must grow or make what they sell.”

In the months of November 2015 through December 2015, the Bel Air Farmers’ Market holds the annual fall/winter local art month along with the weekly Farmers’ Market. Local artists are able to vendor their work just like the farmers are able to vendor their produce during the same hours. This is the seventh annual art month. The November Application to vendor artwork is now available, and space is limited. The Winter Market will also be accepting art vendors, space also limited. To apply, visit http://www.belairfarmersmarket.com/Art-Month.html to receive the applications and for further information.

“Art month enables local artists to display and sell their artwork to the public during market hours. We always hope that the four hours the market is open gives the artists the opportunity to market their wares and get the word out about their talents,” Stated Mrs. Kestner.

Live local music and extreme family entertainment are provided for your enjoyment by the Bel Air Farmers’ Market throughout the season. If you’re interested in applying to be a vender, the application process starts Dec. 1, 2015 through Jan. 30, 2016 for the 2016 season. Email [email protected] for any further questions.

“Our market is a laid back, easy going atmosphere.  Many customers arrive early, grab a cup of coffee, catch up with friends, do some shopping, grab a donut, scone or muffin, shop some more, and maybe visit with some more friends.  Our vendors are welcoming to our customers by answering any product questions or share a recipe.  With the live local music and family entertainment being there throughout the month (see activity calendar on website for times), the market welcomes and enjoys our families that attend too.  We enjoy seeing our little customers dance to music, get their face painted or walk with a smile carrying their balloon creation all while enjoying local fresh ‘farm to table’ products,” stated Mrs. Kestner.

Come support your local farmers and artists at the Bel Air Farmers’ Market every Saturday 8am – 12 PM.
