Holy Hall Passes, Batman!

Brogan Gerhart

We’ve all been there before: an agonizingly long lecture in a classroom that seems to induce chronic daydreaming. It’s a place where mere minutes pass by like hours, and the clock on the wall mocks you with every leisure tick. It’s a struggle that makes wandering the halls during a so-called bathroom break seem quite tempting to even the most dedicated of students.

With the New Year in full effect, some students may have recently noticed their teachers pushing them to utilize more of their class time, and advising them to not spend it in the hallway. But you may be asking yourself why this has anything to do with your schoolwork. Taking a short walk around the school may seem harmless enough, but in the long run, it could potentially begin to negatively affect your grades.

Konnor-Ashley Randlett, sophomore at Bel Air High School, stated, “I personally feel that if a student is in the hallway they should be there for a reason. If a student misses too much class time then they may miss important material that could be an essential element of what they are learning. Staying in class may not be the most exciting thing in the world, but it is necessary and it will help you succeed.”

To reiterate, taking the time to sit in class and actually try to enjoy the subject matter at hand is far more beneficial than wondering the halls in attempt to avoid a class. Simply by staying positive and truly listening to the lesson, you can gain a whole new passion for learning and education.
