School Day Alternative: Students Taking Half Days

LeAnna Campbell

Just one more period. One more period and I can go home! That’s on the mind of all students that get to leave at 10:30 a.m. every day. Of course they can’t just leave go home and sleep on the couch for the rest of the day until dinner time; they can only do half day classes as long as they have college or a job to go to after they get out of school.

Half days are what the juniors always talk about when they plan their schedules for their senior year. As long as you have most of your credits and need just a few more, and have a job or some college classes to complete. Half day students also don’t have to come in to school when there’s a two hour delay on snow days. Lucky them!

“I enjoy having my half days,” says Erica Woods, a senior at Bel Air High School. “Right as I get out of school I have to go to work so it’s nice instead of only working after 2 o’clock and getting a few hours.”

When it gets closer and closer to graduation for all the seniors, times get stressful. Before they know it, they’ll be out the door and starting their new lives.
