Razor to iPhones, MySpace to Twitter: Technology Advances

Konnor-Ashley Randlett

In this day and age, our lives revolve around technology. Everything that we do is somehow connected to technology, whether it be typing a report for school or just checking social media on our phones.

Technology is evolving so rapidly that it was only a few years ago that the Razor phone was what everyone wanted and only parents had cell phones. But now kids of all ages have smart phones. It is crazy to think what type of phones will be invented in five years.

Not only is phone technology evolving, but social media is as well. MySpace was all the rave when it was created in 2003, then Facebook became the big deal. There used to be only one main social media, but now there are multiple that we check ritually throughout the day.

All of the technology and information that we have access to is amazing, but we cannot loss touch with actual human interaction. If you are in a room with your friends, there is no reason to sit on social media and not pay attention to your friends. Now in no way am I saying social media is bad, I am simply saying that technology shouldn’t run our lives.

The way we handle ourselves on social media is very important. The person you are on the internet heavily impacts the way people see you. Yes social media is a great way to see what your friends are doing, but it is also a great way to get avoid a problem with a person while still talking about the problem.  Subtweeting is no way to get out your feelings. If you have a problem with someone, talk to that person about it. There is really no reason to subtweet a person instead of talking to them.

In our daily lives, we have become very dependent of our phones and social media and sometimes we forget to simply put our phones down and enjoy the company of the people around us. It is nice to connect with friends and see how the people you went to elementary school are doing now, but it is equally, if not more, important to be present and not paying more attention to a screen than a person.

Technology, like most things, has both positives and negatives. Technology has given this world many opportunities for communication, learning and connecting people. There is no saying where technology will go in the future but wherever it goes, it will be nothing short of extraordinary.
