Thankful For a Break

Konnor-Ashley Randlett

We have never seen a school calendar like ours this winter. In November, we went to school 13 days before having a week off for Thanksgiving break. Our Thanksgiving break was nine days! That is a very long time compared to our normal five and a half day break.

We got back from Thanksgiving break on December 1st, we will be in school for 16 and a half days before we leave for Winter break. Winter break this year is 12 and a half days long. We leave early from school on December 23rd and between the months of November and December, we only go to school 29 and a half days.

“I love that we have a long Thanksgiving break. It gives me a chance to relax and go visit my family because I don’t get an opportunity to go out and see them very often, especially for Thanksgiving,” says Senior Anna Wojciechowski.

Now only going to school 29 and a half days in two months may seem like a breeze, but as many of us know with the 13 days of November we’ve experienced, it’s not. Teachers have to get in as much teaching as they can in the short period of time we are at school. This means that more homework is given as well as big tests and projects. The weeks leading up to big breaks can be overwhelming but they are less scary if you manage your time wisely.

According to Senior Sarah Ermatinger, “It’s important to stay focused, keep up with all your school work, study for big tests and do all your homework before the break. That way you don’t have to worry about it over the breaks.”

Focus on your school work so you set yourself up for success when we return from Winter break in January. When we all return from Winter break on January 5th, there are 15 days left of the 2nd quarter. That means that there are approximately 31 and a half school days left of the 2nd quarter.

It’s challenging not to think about the holidays during this time of the year, but remember that there are a lot of upcoming things dealing with school that are also important to focus. And remember, if you focus now, your winter break will be a relaxing and stress free!
