Things to Be Thankful For

Brogan Gerhart

In this world that we live in, it is easy to take things for granted. However, with the holiday season coming up, we are reminded to reflect on the lives we live and be thankful for all we have. Below is a list of ten small things that everyone can be and should be thankful for everyday:

  1. A roof over your head and a warm home.
    • So often we think more about how we live than where we live, but in reality, if not for the shelter from the elements, it would be very difficult to think about little more than staying alive.
  2. Plenty of drinkable water.
    • Water is not a given, and being a necessity for everyday life, it’s not something we should take for granted.
  3. Food is plentiful and delicious.
    • With food being present just about everywhere in our society, it’s hard to imagine a life without it.
  4. Enjoying the small and free pleasures of life.
    • Anything from a sunrise, to a walk in the woods, to being kind to your neighbor, everyone can feel the positive effects a simple moment can bring.
  5. Access to the internet.
    • With the ability to learn about pretty much anything online and the opportunity to connect with people from all over the world, it really is a blessing to have something so accessible to use at our disposal.
  6. Friends and family.
    • With all the affection, kindness and fun they offer, it’s important to remember your loved ones and be thankful for everything that they do.
  7. Your health.
    • It’s a known fact, people aren’t invincible – we get sick sometimes. But health is a very precious thing and if you are lucky enough to have it, you should be grateful.
  8. The kindness of other people.
    • If you’re having a bad day or just need a bit of a pick-me-up, other people’s acts of compassion can mean so much. And vice versus! If you see someone struggling, help them – it may be just what they need.
    • That’s right. Every mistake we’ve made and every challenge we’ve faced have somehow contributed to the people we are and have ultimately made us stronger individuals. Although setbacks may suck at the time, one day you will learn to appreciate them.
  9. You are alive.
    • This may seem like a given, but your life is really something special. Being alive means you are able to experience life to its fullest, making decisions to better both yourself and those around you. Life is precious – give thanks you have one.
