Make a Difference With Change.org

Konnor-Ashley Randlett

In high school, it may seem like students can’t really make a difference in what happens in the problems around the world. But that is completely untrue. There are many unknown problems occurring around the world that are brought to light through Change.org.

Change.org is a website that people can start petitions and then the petitions can be signed by users of Change.org. The matters on this website deal with a variety of general topics. They then get more specific dealing with each individual case. The general topics include: Animals, Criminal Justice, Economic Justice, Education, Environment, Gay Rights, Health, Human Rights, Human Trafficking, Immigrant Rights, Sustainable Food and Women’s Rights.

The process to making a ginormous change in the world is quite simple. To become a user, all you need to put in is your email, a password, and your address. Money is not involved, unless you decide to donate towards a certain petition, but it is not an obligation. Then you click one of the topics to see different petitions and if one captures your attention, you read the article about the issue. If you want to sign that petition, click the sign petition button. Once the petition is signed, the website encourages you to share this petition with the people you know to raise even more awareness.

Change.org states, “We want to accelerate this dramatic shift – by making it easier to make a difference, and by inspiring everyone to discover what’s possible when they stand up and speak out.”

Each campaign has a certain number of petitions that it must reach before a petition is considered a winner. Once it reaches the number of petitions, the issue will be reviewed by the group being petitioned against. When clicking on the issue and reading the article about the issue, readers are aware of what is happening and what should be changed. There is a bar that shows how many users have signed the petition and how many signatures are still needed before the number is reached.

“Thanks to Change.org, I am more aware of disturbing topics that I am able to make a difference to, while helping causes that matter to me,” Lisa K. Sevier, member of Change.org says.

This website is all about making a difference. Everyone deserves to be heard and there are many pressing matters that many people have no idea are even a problem. This website uncovers those issues and allows changes to be made. Change.org deals with topics all over the world and is used everywhere. There are approximately 78,246,970 users around the world and the number is constantly increasing.
