Apps and social media websites seem to be the big to-do these days. What’s the difference between them all? There’s following, friending, blogging and so on. How many could there be? More than we think!

Some of the popular apps are Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, Snapchat, Vine and Facebook. But there’s more than just following or friending. On Facebook you can make pages for businesses, as well as up and coming bands. It’s also used just to stay in contact with friends and family that have either moved away from you, or just connect with your fellow peers. Many celebrities also use Facebook to interact with their fans.

Instagram is best known for posting selfies and all the hashtags you could think of. More celebrities use Instagram than any other social media website. They’ve also added the feature to make videos that are fifteen seconds long. Artist use them to show clips of new music videos, or short clips of new songs that are being released.

Sara Wood, a daily Tumblr users, says “Tumblr is my most favorite app. I use Tumblr every day, all day. I find so many cool band pictures and listen to a bunch of music on it too. My favorite things to look at are pictures of Pierce the Veil, All Time Low, and 5 Seconds of Summer.”

Tumblr is where it’s at these days. You can listen to music, reblog pictures, respond to pictures on what you think of them, and post your own pictures/videos. You’re also capable also making gifs, which are short little clips from videos that play over and over again. Some people become Tumblr famous by posting so many things that people love and enjoy looking at.

On Twitter you can keep up with what celebrities are doing, and if they follow you back you can even talk to them! Twitter can also be used for keeping up with your friends and tracking sport events. Like the Bel Air High School Twitter page. They post game scores and when there’s no school on snow days.

Teresa Campbell, a user of Facebook, explained “I’m the oldie, I hardly use any of those other social media things. I mainly use Facebook and Pinterest. It’s really all I need to keep up with friends from high school and college. And also my family that live in different states.”

Vine is for six-second videos that can be from singers, magicians, and even animals. For example: BigCatDerek. He makes post about the tigers, lions, cheetahs and cougars that he works with every day. A lioness recently had three cubs born and he likes to show short videos of them. How much could you possibly put in six seconds?

Friends tend to use this one a lot. Snapchat! It’s basically texting but with pictures. You snap a silly face, type your message and send it to any of your friends. You can also add it to your story so anyone can see it. You also control how long someone can see your picture, with a max of ten seconds.

Can you find the differences between all of these apps? There’s many more of these apps that people don’t know about and still need to be discovered. But for right now everyone may stick to the trending apps that everyone knows.
