Stricken With Senioritis

Senioritis is an epidemic that is spreading all throughout the halls of Bel Air High School. It is a crippling disease that strikes high school seniors. Symptoms include: laziness, an excessive wearing of sweatpants, athletic shorts, T-shirts, and ratty old sweatshirts. It also features the lack of studying, repeated absences, never turning work in, and a dismissive attitude. The only known cure is a phenomenon known as graduation.

Most cases of senioritis appear after seniors have submitted their college applications. Students feel that once they have committed to a college, high school is over. Sequentially, once they believe high school is over, they stop trying. Students feel as that work is a complete waste time.

In some more serious cases, students allow their grades to drop so severely, colleges may rescind offers of admission. Those who experience senioritis are often shocked when colleges send them a letter the summer before their fall semester starts telling them that they can no longer attend their college due to failure in their academics.

However, there are tips on how to avoid senioritis, and luckily for you they’re listed below.

  • Plan ahead. Write down all important dates: deadlines for applications, exams, project due dates, and activities related to clubs sports, or friends.

  • Don’t obsess. Senior year comes once in a lifetime, so even though you will be focused on the admissions process and busy with studies, plan time for fun with friends.

  • Approach each day with a positive attitude, no matter how busy you may be.

  • Take care of yourself. Eat healthy, get some exercise each day, take vitamins, and sleep!

  • Remember, you’ve got less than 6 weeks left. Remind yourself that you’ve worked way too hard for the past three years to give up now.

These tips will help you so that when you walk across the stage in June, knowing that your grades are as good as they have ever been, you can hold your head high because you weren’t infected with the epidemic known as senioritis.
