Four Helpful Tips for Drama Auditions

Nervous? You should be. Drama auditions are coming soon.  But luckily the Bellarion staff has entered the treacherous caverns of the drama lair to get the scoop on what you need to know to successfully audition to this year’s fall play. So here are four tips for you to consider when audition for the Bel Air High School spring play.

Tip Number One: Make sure you pick an audition time that works for you. Auditions are being held after school on September 24th and September 26th. Expect auditions to run a little late, so keeping your afternoon clear just in case is not a bad idea.

Tip Number Two: Research the play you are auditioning for. Pay special attention to the characters in the play; pick the one that you believe you can portray best.

Tip Number Three:  Pick a monologue. Make sure you memorize it, because scripts are not allowed on stage. Pay more attention to how you deliver the monologue, rather than the content of the monologue. Make sure not to choose a monologue from the play that you’re auditioning for. Choose something from another play or movie, or even write your own.

Bel Air Drama Company Faculty Director Mr. Smith stated, “We don’t pay attention to the content of the monologue; we pay attention to the delivery.”

Tip Number Four: Don’t be nervous! The directors want you to succeed. Just remember that nobody is perfect and auditions are supposed to be stressful. Handling the stress responsively will show the directors that you can handle the high levels of pressure that the Drama Company can bring.

“The better you’re prepared, the more you’ll wow us.” Mr. Smith told us.

Auditioning for Drama Company can be a scary thing. But if you follow these 4 tips, you’ll be sure to make an impression.
