Bobcat Ballers Swish Their Way to Success

Ethan Dean, Staff Writer

Bel Air Girls’ Basketball is off to a great start for the 2022-23 season, with Varsity notching 2 wins so far.

Varsity is coached by Calvin Skelton and assistant coach, Blair Thomas. Skelton was kind enough to answer a few questions regarding the Varsity team.

Q: How is this year’s team developing skill-wise?

A: This team is developing and learning each day and, as their coach, it’s really exciting to watch them grow together. The next step for them is to begin to create and apply winning habits to put themselves in a position to succeed.

Q: What are your goals for the team this season?

A: My goal is to maximize their potential. This year’s team is a collection of young, very inexperienced players who just need the time, space and culture to grow into the best version of themselves. Their success will be measured by their ability to fail, learn, grow… and then succeed, learn and grow.

Q: Is there a message you want to send out to the BAHS fan base?

A: Bobcat Nation, please come out and show your team some love! These girls really hustle and want to make you all proud of them. Come and make some noise for your squad!

JV Girls have yet to win a game this season, but it has only recently started. Freshman Caelen Doyle is excited to continue working with the team. “We’re learning more in between each game, and that shows,” says Doyle. “We need to increase our energy for tomorrow’s game.”

Varsity Girls have won 2 games so far, most recently against Havre De Grace high school last week, 30-26. They’ll continue working to add wins tomorrow, Wednesday December 21 at Perryville High School (5:30 JV; 7:00 V).

If you can’t catch tomorrow’s game, we want to hear you in those stands after winter break!
