The Bel Air girl’s varsity soccer team hosted the 9th annual Bobcat Cup on Saturday September 14, 2019 on the Bel Air High School Turf.

The tournament consisted of 8 teams: Bel Air, Century, Huntingtown, Fallston, Rising Sun, Harford Tech, Hereford, Perry Hall. Each team played two games. The winner of the tournament was Huntingtown High School who won both of their games against Bel Air and Fallston.

Bel Air went 1-1 during this tournament. Their first game was against the Rising Sun Tigers. Both teams played hard throughout the game. About ten minutes into the game, Junior Emma Yakim scored their first goal. The final score of the game was 1-0 Bel Air.

“We took some steps in a little different direction this year as we decided to advance the tournament from our normal four teams up to eight”, said coach Josh Ruggerio.

Later in the day Bel Air played their second game against the Huntingtown Hurricanes. Unfortunately, this was a tough game for Bel Air. The final score of the game was 2-0 Huntingtown. Bel Air fought and played hard throughout the game, but didn’t finish with the end result they hoped for.

Coach Ruggerio said, “By adding other local teams it allowed us to showcase what our area has to offer to some of the schools that had been coming from further away in past years”.

This year of the Bobcat cup was a big change to double the number of competitors. There was so much talent over these few games that hopefully will return to play again for the 10th annual Bobcat Cup next season.
