Bel Air High Schools varsity cheer team appears to be in great shape, and they are all very excited for a fresh beginning with new coaches as well as new team members.

The varsity cheer team is starting off the season strong with a new head coach, Gloria Carbaugh, taking the place of Mrs. Benfield since she and Mr. Benfield recently had their first child, baby Joshua!

New faces means many great additions to the team this season, as there are 8 newcomers on the team, including 6 freshmen. Some of the new faces on the team include freshman Camryn Faulkner, sophomore Mariah Lake, and  junior Victoria Flores along with any more. The 4 senior captains, Grace Lorenz, Madison Humes, Emily Slater and Lauren Carbaugh hope to lead this new team to victory during their competition season.

“I’m so lucky to have started my 1st year of coaching with such a hardworking and dedicated group of girls, they’re all so awesome and it looks like we’re going to have a fantastic season together”, said new head coach, Gloria Carbaugh.

Much progress has already been made in the first few weeks of practice, and the team looks forward to their first competition on Saturday, October 5th at Kenwood High School.

“I’m really looking forward to spending everyday this season with this team, everyone is so hardworking and they have such a positive energy”, said sophomore Mariah Lake.

Last year the varsity cheer team placed 2nd at UCBACS and qualified for regionals.

“Our routine is going to be a lot different than in other years, but it’s looking really good so far which makes me really excited for competitions.” said junior Amanda Cooper.

With new coaches, and an amazing new group of cheerleaders, this varsity team is in for a great fall season. You can come see them take the mat at their first competition of the season on Saturday, October 5th at Kenwood High School, you can also find then on the sideline of every varsity football game on Friday nights cheering on our Bobcat football team.
