The 2nd Annual Battle of Bel Air took place over the two day span of Friday September 14, to Saturday, September 15, 2018, and once again featured Bel Air High School facing off against rival private school, John Carroll across all fall sports.

The rules stayed the same as last year, with both sports playing each other in their fall sports, and the winner of the most Varsity sports matchups over the weekend earning the Commissioner’s Cup. This year it was Bel Air on top, earning redemption from last year with a 4-3 victory. The scores were as follows:

Bel Air Cross Country def. John Carroll

BA Field Hockey def. JC 2-1

BA Boys’ Soccer def. JC 2-1

BA Girls’ Volleyball def. JC 3-1

JC Football def. BA 27-0

JC Girls’ Soccer def. BA 4-1

JC Boys’ Volleyball def. BA 3-0

Bel Air has brought the Cup home with this huge weekend victory, and as an added bonus, John Carroll Principal, Mr. Durkin was a man of his word and wore a “Bobcat Nation” shirt to school, honoring his bet with our Principal Komondor. This was indicative of the weekend as a whole, as both teams showed great sportsmanship and respect in victory and defeat, not letting this rivalry bleed into unruly bitterness.

The Bobcats now hold the cup for the next year, and will hope to keep it in their grasp come the third annual event in 2019.
