The 2018 Cross Country season started on August 5, 2018 with a scrimmage and will end with the State Championships on Saturday, November 10, 2018.

The 2018 Cross Country coaches are Coach Gwin and Coach Sharon, both returning this season from last year. Many new freshmen have joined the Cross Country team this year including Amanda Zorzi, Elizabeth Pickett, Emilie Hancock, Faith Moen, Gabriella Wenham, Mackenzie Morrison, and Natalie Kaminsky for the girls, as well as Ayden Namauu, Connor Mace, Mason Floyd, Peyton Bear, and Shane Ivy for the boys.

“I am really excited for this season,” said newcomer Caitlyn Graney. “We have a strong group of runners coming back this year so we should be able to have a really great season.”

During the preseason, Bel Air Cross Country ran the Mustang Invite scrimmage, with the girls placing first overall and boys placing third overall. Newcomer Mackenzie Morrison placed 3rd and returning runner Caleb Zylka placed 2nd.

“This season is new. It is more competitive between the runners and we are all fighting to get a better spot on varsity. We are all a family and we run as one and cheer each other on no matter what,” said Maya Feick, a returning Sophomore.

The 2017 team was very competitive, placing first in multiple meets. At the UCBAC championships last year, the boys placed 4th place overall, while the girls took 2nd.

“This season is going to be really exciting. The girl’s team is dominating and we have some really good runners returning and amazing people who have just joined this year,” said returning Sophomore, Kylie Mika.

The Bel Air Cross Country team plans to work hard and continue to improve throughout the season. The next Cross Country meet will take place at Bo Manor High School on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. Let’s get out there and support our fellow Bobcats!
