Maryland State Showcase Cheerleading Competition

On Thursday, February 15, 2018, the Bel Air High School Varsity Cheerleading team competed in the Maryland State Showcase competition.

Teams started competing at 6:00 p.m. Before that, from 4:50-5:20 p.m. there was opening tumbling for cheerleaders to warm up. The coaches meeting began at 5:30 p.m. There were 30 teams competing in the State Showcase.

The teams competing were North Harford, Perry Hall, Harford Tech, Long Reach, Pikesville, Dulaney, Elkton, Sparrows Point, Bel Air, Eastern Tech, Blake, Rising Sun, Westminster, Francis Scott Key, South Hagerstown, Lackey, Perryville, Manchester Valley, Bohemia Manor, Chesapeake, Westlake, C. Milton Wright, South Carroll, Thomas Johnson, Owings Mills, Meade, Middletown, Oakland Mills, Mariotts Ridge, and Southern. The top three teams were Bel Air in 3rd, Westminster in 2nd, and Chesapeake in 1st.

“I was happy with our performance at the showcase! We could have done better but we tried our hardest and put everything on the floor. Sometimes things go wrong but we are very determined for next season!” said Maddie Humes, a Varsity Cheerleader.

For Seniors Alexis Webster, Abby Slater, Olivia Benton, Ketsia Tshibangu, and Camden Creighton, this was their last competition as a Bel Air cheerleader. The team practiced every day after school, including Saturdays, since the beginning of August. They have been practicing the routine for competitions like this.

“We worked hard during both fall and winter season! I am so proud of the work we have put into these routines. I can’t wait for next season!” said Lahna Hall, Varsity Cheerleader.

This concludes the 2017-2018 cheerleading seasons. Tryouts for next year will take place in August 2018. The cheerleading banquet will take place March 15, 2018 at 6:30 pm. We hope to see all cheerleaders attend!
