Girls’ Basketball Defeat Elks, Fall to Eagles

On Tuesday, February 6, 2018, the Girls’ Junior Varsity and Varsity Basketball teams played at their home court against the Elks of Elkton. Both Junior Varsity and Varsity took home a win for Bel Air.

During the Junior Varsity game, contributors include Freshmen, Cia Vlangas, Emma Sanza and Autumn Conway, who were the key components to their win. The final score of the game was 44-17.

During the Varsity game, the girls knew they would have to step up after their last game with Elkton, which ended with a 52-50 win for Bel Air after taking the lead with just seconds left. The Cats’ ended up beating the Elks with a score of 52-34. Leaders include Senior Elizabeth Hillman with 17 points, Senior, Julia Henry with 13 points, and Junior, Bailey Springer with 5 points.

“This was a great win for our team,” says Senior, Elizabeth Hillman. “We only have a few regular season games left, so we have to start preparing ourselves for playoffs, but I think we’re looking good as of now.”

Then, on Thursday, February 8, 2018, the Bel Air Lady Cats’ traveled to Aberdeen to play the Eagles. Junior Varsity was able to catch yet another win with a score of 40-31, while Varsity fell just a few points short with a score of 50-42. Varsity leaders include Senior, Julia Henry with 11 points, Senior, Elizabeth Hillman with 9 points, and Junior Bailey Springer with 8 points.

“Even though the scoreboard said we lost by 12, I think this was a really good game we played.” Says Senior, Julia Henry. “We just need to fix a few little things and then we’ll be unstoppable.”
