Bel Air Indoor Track Competes at Regionals

On Tuesday, February 6, 2018 Bel Air Indoor Track competed at the MPSSAA Regionals Meet. This meet determined whether Bel Air would have runners for States.

Brenton Duvall placed 4th in the 500 meters with a PR time of 1:10.78. For the 800 meters, Ethan Gray came into 2nd with a SR time of 2:10.23 and Brenton Duvall placed 12th with a time of 2:11.96. For the women’s team, Ava Goeller placed 4th with a PR time of 2:28.16, Erin Brown placed 15th with a PR time of 2:37.15, and Rebekah Cross finished in 16th with a PR also, with a time of 2:38.57.

“I’m very happy with how we’ve done this indoor season as a team. We’re all running very well and hopefully we can carry the momentum into the outdoor season,” says Caleb Zylka.

Ethan Gray placed 7th in the 1600 meters with a PR time of 4:45.06, Andrew Plowman came in 13th with a PR time of 4:49.05, and Nick Hammond finished in 15th with a PR time as well, with the time 4:49.35. For the women’s team, Rebekah Cross came in 10th with a PR time of 5:42.51 and Riley McDermott placed 15th with a PR time of 5:51.77. For the 3200 meter race, Caleb Zylka placed 4th with a PR time of 10:04.81. For the women’s team, Shelby hay came in 16th with a PR time of 13:08.75, Kylie Mika in 17th with a PR time of 13:34.77, and Riley McDermott in 18th with a PR time as well with the time of 13:37.82.

Senior, Ethan Gray says, “Our team went out to regionals and performed! We had personal bests across the board, plus some qualifying to States. We had many brave and courageous individual races like  that of Caleb Zylka, Ava Goeller, and Brenton Duvall. Each showed heart and are moving on to the top level at states, as well as our boys 4x800m relay. I wish the best of luck and I’m excited to see how our team does going forward to States and the outdoor season!”

For the 55m, Lydia Cross got a final score of 9.88. The men’s team placed 6th for the 4×200 relay with a time of 1:39.49 and the women’s team placed 9th with a time of 1:56.11. For the 4×400, the men’s team placed 6th again, with a time of 3:44.71 and the women’s team placed 8th with a time of 4:36.66. For the 4×800 relay, the men’s team placed 2nd with a time of 8:29.92 and the women’s team placed 5th with a time of 10:15.93. Lillian Smith got a score of 25-07.50 for the 4kg Shotput competition.

Ava Goeller, States competitor says, “For my first year running track, I really can’t believe how far I have gotten. I’ve ran three open 800s this season, my first one I ran a 2:34 and the second one, a 2:28 which got me into states. I’m so honored to be a part of this team and to be the only girl on the team going to states. I couldn’t have done it without all of the support from everyone, especially my coaches.”
