On Saturday, January 13 2018, the Bel Air Junior Varsity cheerleaders took the mat in their first competition of the season at C. Milton Wright High School.

At the C. Milton Wright competition, there were 13 teams competing. There were 5 Junior Varsity teams including C. Milton Wright Junior Varsity, Sparrows Point Junior Varsity, Westminster Junior Varsity, and Bel Air Junior Varsity. The Varsity teams competing consisted of Eastern Tech, Perryville, C. Milton Wright, Sparrows Point, Westminster, North Harford, Joppatowne, and Perry Hall.  The Bel Air High School Junior Varsity placed 1st.

The competition started at 11 AM, and the Bel Air Bobcats competed at 11:42 AM. While the Junior Varsity team was competing, you could tell they looked very poised, and that they were competing as a team. The girls were practicing very hard, while having limited practices due to snow days.

“This was the best performance we have had in a while. Girls on our team came off the mat crying because we worked so hard and finally put the best routine we could have on the mat. There was so much energy dedicated to the routine, and I feel really connected with these girls.” said Lauren Carbaugh, Junior Varsity Captain for Bel Air High School.

For Sophomores Gabby Pasko, Diana Riggs, Emily Slater, Caroline Kinder, Lauren Carbaugh, Stephanie Gray, Lahna Hall, Lidia Villaurel, Rhea Kabir, Meliyah Faison, Melanie Hoang, Juliann Derose, and Jenea Seaberry, this is their last Junior Varsity season.

“I am so proud of these girls. I can’t even explain how happy I was to see the girls coming off the mat sobbing. I’ve never seen a group of JV girls so dedicated to competing. I’ve never seen a varsity team that excited to cheer on our JV. The ones who have never competed before made it look like they’ve been doing it their entire lives!” said Varsity Cheerleader, Alexis Webster.

Come support the Bel Air Bobcats Junior Varsity and Varsity cheerleaders as they take the mat at Westminster High School on Saturday January 20th at 3 PM!
